In Episode 5 of Somebody Feed Phil, he takes takes us to the Big Easy–New Orleans! Phil describes New Orleans (NOLA) as a “gumbo of fun” and he is right. New Orleans has an amazing cuisine that is influenced by a blend of African, American and French cultures. The city is also known for it’s never-ending nightlife. It’s hard not to have fun when you’re in NOLA.

#1 Bourbon Street
Bourbon Street is iconic for it’s free-flowing beverages and endless nightlife inside and on the streets. It’s worth a visit for anyone and everyone.
#2 Bevi Seafood Co.
Want caramelized onions in a cochon de lait sandwich, and freshly boiled seafood? Then head over to Bevi Seafood Co. The cochon de lait sandwich looks amazing. Enjoy seafood in the months that end in an “-er,” which is when the seafood is usually in season.

#3 Shaya
Alon Shaya is the owner and Chef at Shaya. Chef Alon offers a modern Israeli cuisine in New Orleans. Shaya is also the #1 restaurant in the area.
Phil visits the Shaya residence prior to heading in the restaurant. They have a dinner of red beans and rice (held every Monday evening and made by Alon’s wife Emily) and Jewish gefilte fish.
At the restaurant, Phil tries a delicious ljutenica–a Bulgarian spread with roasted peppers, egg plant, and tomatoes and house made pita to go with the spread. Phil also tries the teramasalata, short ribs and tabbouleh baba ganoush with spring onions. Phil ends his meal with chocolate babka cake.

#4 Cochon Butcher
Phil dines on some cracklin’s with steamed syrup at Cochon Butcher. Ey la bar brotha’! Soon enough blood sausage with grits, cajun boudin, and a hog head cheese (paté) arrives to the table. He dines with actor Wendell Pierce (from Treme and The Wire).

#5 Easter Parade in New Orleans
Phil helps Constance off her carriage at the Easter Parade. Apparently New Orleans is parade central. Find a parade and get lost in it.
#6 Turkey in the Wolf
Mason and Lauren serve sandwiches and booze at their restaurant, Turkey in the Wolf.
Come here and try their specialty cocktails. In the episode Phil tries the Ma’am Don’t Be Hysterical which has gin, campari, house blackberry syrup and lime cocktail. It looks amazing!
They dine on Tacos Inauthenticos, which is their own take on Taco Bell tacos and a tasty vegetarian reuben sandwich made with collard greens, inspired by Stein’s Reuben sandwich.
Don’t forget the desserts! Get the ice cream with cheese straws and sprinkles.

#7 Roots of Music
Phil goes to Treme, New Orleans’ oldest African American community and visits the non-profit Roots of Music. Roots of Music instills the importance of music education to over 100 African American youth in the New Orleans area. Phil takes a turn at creating his own tunes with the students and marches around town with the band.
#8 Dooky Chase
Leah Chase, Chef and owner of Dooky Chase, is well in her 90s and still serving a mean gumbo. She is a Creole cuisine legend.

#10 Camellia Grill
Camellia offers fluffy whipped omelettes and everyone needs to eat whipped omelettes.

#11 Willie Mae’s Scotch House
Come to Willie Mae’s for the best fried chicken in NOLA since 1957. Phil goes to the Treme location and gets red beans and rice and, of course, fried chicken that will blow your mind! They also serve other soul food dishes such as Jambalaya and gumbo.
Fun fact: Willie Mae’s was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The community came together to rebuild this iconic restaurant.

#12 Mosca’s
Phil invites his friends out to dine at Mosca’s (fly in Italian). Shaya’s pro-tip is to eat your spaghetti with the baked oyster dish. This is a ways away from New Orleans center, but is worth the effort to get there.

#13 Nikki and Annie’s Wedding
Phil attends Chef Nikki Tran and Annie’s wedding and dine on a seafood feast cooked by Nikki herself. Nicky hung out with Phil in the Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon episode of Somebody Feed Phil.
