Phil Rosenthal (creator of Everybody Loves Raymond) takes on Lisbon, Portugal! He heads to Lisbon without any knowledge of the city. Lisbon, or Lisboa as the Portuguese call it, is a culmination of of cultures and cuisine inspired by the port city.

#1 Manteigaria
Phil’s first stop is for Portugal’s iconic pastei de nata (egg custard tarts). He is served a hot one straight from the oven at Manteigaria. Sprinkle on some cinnamon and enjoy your nata with a delicious cup of coffee. The lines are long, but staff move quickly and efficiently to serve delicious pastries and beverages.

#2 Time Out Market
Phil then meets up with Joao Cepeda, the former Editor Time Out Lisbon. Joao takes Phil to the Time Out Market and they dine on Lisbon’s greatest food hits. Phil tries out cod cake, Asian beef (Tartaro Asiatico) in the renown food court.

#3 Tricana
Tricana sells seafood that is ready to be eaten directly from the can. The meats include tuna, cod, squid, mackerel, eggs and more.

Phil takes a ride up the Santa Justa Lift to view beautiful Lisbon from above.

#5 Belcanto
Belcanto is the first Lisbon restaurant to earn 2 Michelin stars. Owned by Chef Jose Avillez, Belcanto serves a sophisticated evolution of Portuguese cuisine. Phil dines on gold egg, large prawn and an orange cream dessert.

#6 Tour Lisbon on a Motorcycle

#7 Ponto Final
Phil and Ivo, Phil’s PA and driver, dine near the shorline cliff at Ponto Final. They get an amazing view of the ocean and the 25 de Abril Bridge. The fish, shellfish and soup dishes look amazing. A romantic dinner for two will cost around €40.

Phil makes friends with a random table at Pastéis de Belém. Phil can’t get enough of these egg custard tarts. Pastéis de Belém is best place to go for pastéis de nata in Lisbon.

#9 Jesus é Goês
Phil dines with Jesus himself. Jesus makes Portuguese influenced Indian food and invites Phil to try a traditional Goan dish of roti with chickpeas and a another dish he calls, the Holy Hamburger (pictured above). Make reservations for Jesus é Goês here.

#11 Ginjinha Sem Rival
Pedroso then takes Phil to drink traditional Ginja. Ginja is a liqueur made with sour cherries and has a 23.5% ABV. Ginja is enjoyed before, during and after meals. It’s a Portuguese tradition!

#12 Cervejaria Ramiro
Miguel Pirex, a Lisbon food journalist, takes Phil and his crew to Cervejaria Ramiro for the best and freshest seafood in Lisbon. Head in early and expect to wait for a table. It’s always busy. Once you’re sat down, it only takes minutes for your food to arrive at the table. Pro Tip – get all your seafood prepared in garlic!

#13 Tram #28
Phil jumps on Tram #28 which takes him through the narrowest streets of Lisbon.
#14 Croissant Gigante
After the Tram #28 ride, Phil heads into Croissant Gigante and orders, well, a giant croissant! You’ll have to use both hands when handling this monster pastry!

#15 Nannarella
Nannarella is an ice cream and sorbet parlor displaying fresh flavors. Nearby is D’Allesandro’s pizza shop – La Pizza di Nanna. Phil makes friends in the area and ends up having a fun time!

#16 Wurst
Phil found a dog! WURST is owned by Austrian expats Maria and Martin. they wanted sausages and decided to make and sell house made sausages that are packed with flavor. How can things get any wurst than this?

#17 Palazzo Pena
Phil visits the Pallazo Pena, a castle located in Sintra. He is joined by Henrique Sa Passoa, the owner and Chef at Alma.

#18 Piriquita
Founded in 1862, Piriquita has been baking for the kings. They’ve retain their quality and serve delicious travesseiros (pillows with almond cream) and queijadas (pies made from fresh cheese, sugar, eggs, flour and a little cinnamon wrapped in a crispy batter).

#19 Alma
Alma means “soul” and is a rated one Michelin star restaurant. Phil is invited to dine on cobble street cod (bacalao) and chocolate hazelnut dessert. Seriously, how can I live like Phil?
