Where to Find Flight Deals

#1 Google Flights will show many flight options and inform you when it is cheaper to fly if you are not set on dates.

  1. Enter more than one departure airport if you have multiple options you can fly from, this tool will find the flights from all of them (up to 5) and list them in order of price so you can see the least expensive option. For example, I live in Seattle and am willing to fly to a nearby hub if the deal is better. LAX usually has the best deals.
  2. Use the map feature to display the best flight deals in the area that you are traveling to. From the area you can find a cheap connection to your desired destination. Also great for when you want to take that spontaneous low-cost trip!

#2 SkyScanner – great for setting alerts for specific and non-specific destinations, airline, and date

  1. TIPS FOR NON-SPECIFIC DATES OR DESTINATIONS:
    1. In the TO line type EVERYWHERE or the country you need to travel to (not city). Example: SPAIN, not MADRID.
    2. When choosing a departure date click on the WHOLE MONTH tab and then CHEAPEST MONTH or choose a specific month if you need to travel during a specific month.

Other tricks that may help you save on airfare:

    1. Hide or change a VPN (virtual private network) service like CyberGhost, which a decent one that is free http://www.cyberghostvpn.com/. Try searching flights from different locations.
    2. Open a private window or browse incognito. Some travel websites track your searches and gradually raise the price when they can identify your search behavior.
    3. Clear your cache! This process will clear your search history, erasing your search pattern and possibly tricking the airline into lowering prices.
    4. Buy your ticket using a different currency. Sometimes this actually makes a noticeable difference in the price! Use a credit card without currency conversion fees (i.e. Chase Sapphire, Capital One, AMEX) and gives you cash back or points.
