Ludi’s (200 Pike St) has been around since the 1930s. It’s located one block away from Pike Place Market and has been a safe haven for downtown residents.

The restaurant announced their plans to close in April 2019. Their doors are expected to shutter in August 2019.

The owner, Gregorio Rosas came to America in 1978 and started working at the diner as a dishwasher. The restaurant was formerly known as Turfs. When the owner died, she passed the restaurant on to Rosas.

Rosas has owned the business since 2001 and has transformed the restaurant into an iconic diner with an all-day breakfast menu.

Ludi’s 17-year lease expires and the owner has new plans for the property into a retail open market with parking.

Ludi’s serves Filipino cuisine at an affordable price. The diner serves ube pancakes with coconut syrup, lumpia, and longsilog with garlic rice alongside chicken-fried steak and eggs and corned beef hash.

Ludi’s regulars have been going to the restaurant for years and appreciate the friendly service and low prices.

Seattle is evolving and many restaurants and businesses that have been around for decades cannot renew their leases or are being pushed out.

Rosas is working with commercial real estate agents to reopen in Seattle, but with Seattle’s rising rents, that prospect looks unlikely.

As of July 2019, Ludi’s has shut their doors. They planned to shut down in August 2019 but a kitchen fire expedited their closure.
